Thorney 0 – 50 Kempston                                                           22nd October 2007

With the World cup final on every ones minds today was a case of getting the job done and then watching the final in the evening. The Kempston Team arrived at Thorney with plenty of time to prepare, the teams plans were disrupted with Thorney not turing up until half an hour before kick off to open their club facilities. This did not phase the Kempston side who in rugby terms, meant business from the kick off. Thorney have always played hard for the first 10 to 15 minutes and then tire from the pace of the game. Today was no different. Wayne Botha opened the scoring after only 5 minutes with a strong run that started off from just outside Thorneys 22, James Bayliss slotted the Conversion 0 – 7. After that the gates opened with Stuie Cameron, Tim Argent and Wayne Botha all adding tries with James Bayliss gaining the a further conversion to build a 24- 0 half time score.

With the sun in K’s eyes for the second half the story was much the same as the first half with Thorney applying pressure for the first 10 and then tiring later on, Wayne added to his scores by completing the hatrick of tries with the first score of the half. From decent pressure from the forwards Dan Hawkins scored a push over try from a ball taken against the head on the 5 metre line! K’s finished strongly with debutant winger little John finishing off two backs moves to gain a brace of tries. James Bayliss added 3 more conversions with the score line settled at 50 – 0 which has been the best result that K’s have posted against Thorney away from home in recent years.

Special mention to the whole team for defending well and keeping Thorney to a nil score line. Also the monster hit that Adam May put in on their winger at the end of the match which was testament to the commitment for 80 minutes.
