Kempston 38 - 6 St Neots

With a 1:30pm meet confirmed for the Kempston 1st team we always new we were up for a battle after seeing the St Neots squad out running through drills an hour and a half before kick off.

With the weather holding out K’s received the kick off and meant business by running the ball through centres Tim Argent and
WayneBakkiesBotha who were often double tackled as a sign of their strength in the contact area.

K’s adopted a good strategy from the line out releasing ball carriers to set up decent possession for Chris Pitts at 10 to distribute and test the opposition full back with some clever kick and chases with Stu Cameron and
Paul Beddard piling the pressure on each time snuffing out any chance of a St Neots counter attack. St Neots did test the nerve of the K’s defence and only walked back after 4 misses at goal. The first points to be scored were by our friend from up north, Andrew Stock who piled over in the corner after the ball was distributed through several hands. Paul Leggott missed the touch line conversion. The next passage of play from the kick saw K’s challenging the line again and after several attempts Tom Trinder finished off some powerful running by scoring after a powerful run from Simon Ward, Paul Leggott added the extras form a 12-0 lead. St Neots then stepped up a gear and attacked the K’s territory and K’s gave away a penalty for diving over the ball. 12-3 to K’s. Chris Pitts then took the game by the scruff of the neck by involving strike runners from backs and forwards and from close range crashed over for an unconverted try 17 – 3 half time.

St Neots scored first through a penalty in the second half and that was the last of there points with Kempston scoring 3 tries through Wayne Botha scoring a powerful effort from outside the 22, Tim Argent taking a spilled ball and breaking through the line and
Paul Leggott taking a floated pass from Botha’s line break all three try’s converted by  Botha from wide left for the right footer.

Special mentions must go to Adam “Big Show” Revell for his first team return, Ollie Wright for his first team debut and the good sportsmanship from both sides throughout the game.
